The autumn started
in the Region of Murcia with a very strong storm on Monday evening (22
September) which included noisy thunders and hail. The torrential rainfall flooded
a lot of roads, houses and the tram, which had to stop its service. The strong precipitation caused the brought
down of roofs and it dragged cars and garbage cans down the streets. In some
places, especially in La Vega Media, the floods caused important damages in
garages and roads, but fortunately there were not any wounded.
The city of
Murcia was in orange alert from 20.00 until 1.00, and during that period of
alert the emergency services attended approximately 200 phone calls related to
problems caused by the rain, especially floods and people who were trapped in
buildings. The majority of calls were from Murcia capital and some of its
districts.
These kinds
of storms are not very common in Murcia, in the Region hardly ever rains, so we
hope to have a wet autumn and more storms like the mentioned.
